Research stay of Dr. Emek Aslan at CIDSAV-UDG

Emek Aslan is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the CIDSAV-UdG with a scholarship from TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye). He is a Plant Pathologist and has a Ph.D. in Biotechnology. He is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology at Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun, Turkiye.

His research topics focus on the development of bioproducts for a sustainable agriculture, like biopesticides for plant disease biocontrol in vegetables and fruits, the production of biostimulants and biofertilizers, as well as the production and formulation of probiotics. He is also interested in the valorization of agro-food waste into value-added products with a bio-economy perspective. Dr. Aslan participated in the Cost Actions; CA864 (Combining traditional and advanced strategies for plant protection in pome fruit growing), CA873 (Bacterial diseases of stone fruits and nuts), and CA15202 (Self-healing as preventive repair of concrete structures- SARCOS). He recently participated in the on-call project funded by TUBITAK titled “Development of biopesticide and biostimulant formulations for good agricultural practices in greenhouse cucumber cultivation” as a researcher responsible for the work package of production, separation, and drying processes of bacterial biopesticide formulations.

In CIDSAV-UdG, Dr. Aslan is involved in the isolation and characterization of peptides of bacterial origin against Xylella fastidiosa, the formulation of microbial pesticides consisting of lactic acid bacteria, and the biocontrol of Fire Blight caused by Erwinia amylovora.
