Last December, the project New peptide based-compounds as smart plant protection products against plant diseases caused by Xylella fastidiosa (SmartPEXYL) was definitively resolved. The goal of the proposal is developing new sustainable peptide-based compounds to protect crops, reducing the impact that current pesticides have on human healyf and the environment. The compounds that we will be working with are Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNAs), and target oriented peptides (TOPs), and the final goal of the project are to either selectively kill Xf, disrupt its pathogenicity, or induce plant defenses, in order to prevent the infection or cure infected plants.
This project is granted by the Programa Estatal per impulsar la Investigació Cientifica-tècnica and will last 4 years and is carried out in collaboration within the UdG with the Laboratory of Innovation in Processes and Products of Organic Synthesis (LIPPSO), who has participated in previous coordinated projects in the last years.
