On November 6th, the Doctoral School held the award ceremony for the diplomas granted to students who defended their thesis during the 2024–2025 academic year. During the event, Dr. Beatriz Gascón and Dr. Luis Alejandro Moll, both members of CIDSAV, received their diplomas. The ceremony also included the presentation of the Extraordinary Doctorate Prizes, where Dr. Luis Alejandro Moll received the award for the best thesis, titled “Synthetic peptides that target key processes of Xylella fastidiosa and its host for the leaf scorch control in almond plants”, within the Technology doctoral program.
Dr. Moll was also chosen as the representative of the doctoral candidates and delivered a speech in which he emphasized that “this is a stage full of opportunities, where one can carry out research stays abroad and interact with brilliant people whom you might never have met without the doctorate.” He also encouraged supervisors to support their doctoral students, who sometimes may feel lonely.
The event was presided over by the Director of the Doctoral School, Gerardo Boto, who presented the annual data on the number of theses defended; the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, Maria Pla, who encouraged the new doctors to work with critical thinking and social responsibility; and the Rector of the University of Girona, Quim Salvi, who highlighted the importance of the Doctoral School in advancing society.
The ceremony also featured a keynote lecture titled “Research in the Humanities in Turbulent Times”, delivered by Eduardo Manzano, Research Professor at the Institute of History of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
