Emili Montesinos, Director of CIDSAV and Professor of Plant Production at the UdG, gave a conference at the event held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Technical Research Services of the UdG. The conference was entitled “The path of science. Is the journey more important than the arrival?”. The event took place in the Manel Xifra i Boada auditorium in the Narcís Monturiol Building of the UdG Research and Innovation Park, on March 5, 2024.
Professor Montesinos made a presentation of the R+D+T system in the field of life sciences, and how the scientific equipment has evolved, while taking a tour through his personal experience from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in the 80s, until the founding of the UdG in 1991, and the subsequent creation and development of the Technical Research Services in 1993. He highlighted the influence of advances in omics techniques and the future impact of artificial intelligence. He described the path of knowledge transfer as a fundamental piece of research, to end with a detailed outline of how complicated the path of researchers is in today’s world overseen by the management system, and concluded by saying “The important thing has been the journey, not the arrival”.
