UdG Racing Division is opening its way to the Formula Student Spain competition with the aim of racing at the Circuit de Montmeló in 2026

Almost 10 years after the UdG Racing Team last stepped on the Montmeló racetrack with its single-seater car, a brand new team, UdG Racing Division, linked to the University of Girona, follows the way paved by their predecessors to the Formula Student Spain competition with the goal of securing a spot at the 2026 event.

The UdG Racing Team started its project in 2014 with a clear objective: to compete in Formula Student Spain 2015 at Montmeló. With a team of 20 members, led by Albert Martínez, they carried out in just over a year a considerable milestone: the construction of a single-seater with a combustion engine prepared for competition. Unfortunately, this prototype did not pass the technical inspection prior to the dynamic tests of the competition and could not participate.

Now, a decade after this event, a new team, made up of more than 50 students of various degrees from the University of Girona, is preparing to participate again in the competition. The UdG Racing Division began in 2023 with two engineering students: Marc Vilà and Damian Granados, who took the initiative of reviving the University of Girona’s Formula Student team by taking the previous team as an example and learning from their mistakes.

For this reason, it was decided to incorporate to the team students from other degrees, dividing them into departments that focus on various areas that are key to achieve the team's goal, such as the design and construction of various parts of the car (chassis, engine, electronics, aerodynamics...) the search for sponsors, the communication and promotion of the team, the establishment of legal bases...

Despite the technical and other difficulties that it has had to face, the team goes ahead with their eyes set on the Montmeló Circuit for the 2026 edition. Simultaneously, the team is organising other activities that have allowed it to open up to the university and professional community; participating in the Forum Industrial in 2024 and 2025, holding presentations about the team and the single-seater and even a conference chaired by Dakar Rally's copilot, Oriol Vidal.
