Esther Badosa Romaño, PhD.

Esther Badosa has been working at the Institute of Food and Agricultural Technology (INTEA) at the University of Girona (UdG) since 1995. Currently, she is a project manager and researcher in the Centre of Innovation and Development of Plant Health (CIDSAV) at the Technological and Scientific Park, UdG.

Her research focuses on Plant Pathology, especially in minimizing the use of chemical pesticides and in the development of sustainable management strategies for the control of diseases in fruit trees. Her training in this area started with her PhD and since then she has been doing research stays’ in research centers related to this topic. Nowadays, she has a particular interest in using new alternative products that include microbial biological control agents and synthetic antimicrobial peptides.

She has experience in developing molecular tools for monitoring and quantifying viable cells of microorganisms and carrying out gene expression studies in plants and bacteria.  She works on competitive research projects (from European, Spanish and Catalonia governments), and has participated in more than 100 congresses, co-authored around 50 scientific articles, co-directed some doctoral theses and co-inventor in several patents. She has experience in organizing national and international meetings.
